Gestures

$2,600.00

This body of work shifts away from the traditional vessel and moves toward panel-based compositions that explore line, movement, and spacial depth within a space.

Each panel functions as its own field of color and rhythm. Gestural lines move across contrasting grounds of opaline white, vermillion red, and opaque black—at times blending into the surface, and at others sharply resisting it. The white panel holds a more open, sketch-like quality, while the red and black panels push more of a bold contrast and density, creating visual tension. Together, they form a dynamic interplay of variation and repetition.

Using cane as a primary component rather than my traditional blown application, I approach the material as a fluid drawing. Each element is slightly raised from the surface, allowing light and shadow to become active components in the composition.

The work also draws from the popular visual language of the 1980s and 1990s that shaped my childhood, where bold, colorful, seamless linear graphics filled television, textiles, music, fashion, and advertising. While referencing these pop influences, the red, black, and white palette shifts the focus toward contrast, structure, and movement, rather than the bright, urgent, and static visual energy of the era.
